Amílcar

Poet, agricultural engineer and revolutionary Amílcar Cabral was born in Guinea-Bissau to Cape Verdean parents. After studying in Portugal, he emerged as the charismatic leader of the anti-colonial struggle against Portuguese rule. With his utopian ideas, he sparked a cultural and an armed uprising that went on to inspire other African liberation movements.

Paulina Chiziane in Mozambique, Elisa Lucinda in Brazil, and Raquel Lima in Portugal have their daily lives revealed and altered in the exchange of nine letters that cross the Atlantic and its colonial history. Desires, anxieties, and struggles to continue as writers in the diaspora are presented in a poetic narrative of sounds, spiritualities, and bodies, in which their existence challenges racism, sexism, and xenophobia, looking towards the future of the Portuguese language and its speakers.

The couple deals with the conflicts of their last days together, crossed by the winter of a city in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, surrounded by freshwater beaches and missing the sea.

From a forgotten photo of a group of clandestine Cape-Verdean guerrillas in the mountains of Cuba, Elson, a young filmmaker, searches for the silenced heroes of this daring and little-known military operation, whose main objective was to fulfill Amílcar Cabral's dream of liberating the country from the clutches of colonialism. In a back-and-forth between the past and the present, the film establishes a conversation with the heroes of the country's Independence.

Orlando Pantera

Orlando Pantera (1967‑2001) was a gifted Cape Verdean musician who died at 33 before releasing his solo album. This film revives his legacy through innovative sound and archival material from his daughter. It features contemporary interpretations by artists like Mayra Andrade and Princezito, highlighting his lasting influence on musicians today.

Zila

Saudade (longing) fills the life of Zila, an elderly Black woman who lives alone, wrapped in her memories while awaiting a visit from a loved one. However, the arrival of her granddaughter Ana widens the generational gap between them, pushing Zila to perform an ancestral African ritual of forgetfulness. Rooted in Bantu-Mozambican mythology, the short film sensitively interweaves the rawness of Alzheimer's with powerful questions of Black identity and ancestral memory.
